Vince Zampella’s Frustration with EA

In a 2025 interview with GQ, renowned game developer Vince Zampella discussed a range of topics, but none more harshly than EA, whom he exited from and later founded Infinity Ward.

While Zampella famously has created or worked on the two largest first-person war games in gaming history in Medal of Honor and Battlefield, Zampella explained that one exists because of the other.

Following the release of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault in 2002, Publisher EA decided they wanted to move the development to in-house despite Allied Assault being critically-acclaimed. Activsion then approached key members of 2015, including Zampella resulting in the rise of Infinity Ward with the Call of Duty series.

Zampella did not mince words when describing the situation.

Call of Duty only exists because EA were d1@ks.”
