This Day in Gaming History: PlayStation 5 Hits the Streets

On November 12th, 2020, Sony unleashed what has become the fastest-selling console in US history, PlayStation 5. Gamers in North America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea became the first to receive the console, with most other regions releasing on November 19th.

PlayStation 5 dropped with two sku’s; PlayStation 5 (which includes a disc drive) and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. Retailing at $499 and $399 respectively, the device sold 4.5 million units in just its first quarter of availability. With revised models and Pro versions, PlayStation 5 has now exceeded 80 million units with no signs of slowing down.
