Welcome to a new feature we’re calling “This Day in Gaming History,” where we, you guessed it, note important events that occured on specific dates throughout the history of this great industry.
Today we’re exploring the PlayStation 2 SCPH-7000 model, also known by gamers as the PS2 slim.

On November 1, 2004, Sony introduced a slimmer, more budget-friendly PlayStation 2 with the relase of the SCPH-70000 model in North America and Europe.
Featuring a form factor of 2.8cm thickness (as compared to the 7.8cm thickness of the previous model), a far lighter device thanks to the newly-condensed architecture, as well as a consumer-friendly price point of $149 as compared to the $199 price point of the previous model.

The downside? Because of the new architecture, some Original PlayStation games were not compatible with the Playstation 2 SCPH-7000 model.
While not nearly as sought after by collectors as original hardware is, the PlayStation 2 SCPH-70000 model is still a valuable part of the PlayStation family.
