Review: Turtle Beach Recon 70 Wired Headset (Nintendo Switch)

Review: Turtle Beach Recon 70 Wired Headset (Nintendo Switch)

Take your Nintendo Switch gaming audio to the next level with the Recon 70 headset.

Overview:

The Recon 70 I reviewed was the Nintendo Switch officially licensed version which is a wired headset that features a rubberized cable and flip to mute microphone. The design is lightweight, and the lay-flat design is a great bonus! The 40MM drivers provide solid sound and the omnidirectional microphone is perfect for any gaming session you have planned!

Specs:

  • 40 MM speakers with Neodymium magnets
  • 20hz-20kHz response
  • Over-ear earcups
  • Onboard controls (Master volume, mic mute)
  • 4ft cable

What I Like:

Since this is branded for Nintendo Switch it makes sense to have a portable and lightweight design. The Recon 70 does just that—it’s extremely lightweight and since it lays flat when not in use, the Recon 70 is easy to take on the go!

The lightweight design also makes it comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.

I also love the flip to mute feature—while this is more common now than ever, it is always a welcome addition.

Finally, the style of the headset has just enough of that ‘gamery’ aesthetic that I enjoy, without being over the top.

White headset with boom microphone.

Sound Quality:

Sound quality is subjective so please keep that in mind! Overall, for $39 the Recon 70 sounds great! While it cannot compete with a $200 headset, it simply isn’t designed to. The volume is great, and the sound response is decent up to the maximum volume. At max or near max volume, I did notice that mids and bass sounds got a little muddy, but it didn’t hinder the experience at all.

Final Thoughts:

Great design, features, and solid sound. All at an affordable $39, the Turtle Beach Recon 70 wired headset is a great pickup!
