In an interview with The Game Business, Retired President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime covered a variety of topics, including the validity of the “console wars.” He stated that while the console wars are over in such that direct competition is no longer in the forefront of the industry due to Microsoft‘s shift in focus to software, he did share that he feels the console wars will always exist in some way due to financial constraints:
“Gamers out there have limited budgets. You have to win for every dollar spent; you need to win for every minute spent playing. And so there’s always going to be a war going on. It may be below the surface, but there’s always going to be a battle for attention and mindshare.”
