Rumors and leaks of the next Nintendo gaming hardware have run rampant in recent weeks thanks to third-party accessory publishers, retailers, and supposed insiders. We’ve seen games, mockups, even 3D-printed shells of the device. Many of these leaks are thanks to Genki, an accessory manufacturer that has shown accessories for the device that are installed on mockups that are supposedly clones of the hardware Nintendo had provided the company.
Through all of this, Nintendo had remained silent until a request for comment by CNET Japan prompted a response:
“The gaming hardware that Genki claims to be Nintendo hardware at CES is unofficial and not provided to the company by Nintendo.”
Following this statement by Nintendo, Gamespark approached the “person in charge” at Genki, who walked back the previous claims that Genki is in possession of the console hardware. The “person in charge” revealed that the accessories were produced based on leaked information throughout the industry, and that the company had not yet seen the final hardware.
Nintendo has previously stated that they plan on an official announcement in their 2024 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.
