In 2017, Turtle Beach introduced what would become one of their biggest selling headseats, the Stealth 600™. We raved about it. We found it difficult to discern between the quality of the Stealth 600™ and that of higher priced headsets either by Turtle Beach or its’ competitors. We found very few areas of concern and continue to use this set in certain capacities to this very day. We thought we’d found the ultimate mid-priced headset.
We were wrong.
Turtle Beach will release the successor to the Stealth 600™, the Stealth 600 Gen 2™ on September 20th, and it’s a doozy. Take everything great about the first gen, and then add everything except the kitchen sink.
Let’s start with design. The Stealth 600 Gen 2™ comes in both black and white and connects directly to the XBox ™family of devices via XBox Wireless and comes in a lighter, more compact form factor. This eliminates the slight soreness that seems to show up on the top of heads after long periods of gaming. In addition, the “D” shape of the ear cup seems to give a snugger fit than competitors and also takes up less real estate on faces. Again, this makes for a more comfortable fit. Finally, thanks to the patented Prospecs™ design which provides much give on the ear cups, wearing glasses with comfort will not be an issue.
Let’s talk mic. When not in use, it’s barely noticeable. The mic folds down from the left side earphone and is fully adjustable, allowing for it to also be slid closer to the cheek if needed. In addition, the device features flip-to-mute, which allows players to simply fold the mic back in order to mute the mic. When looking at the headset with the mic folded in, it’s almost invisible. This is great for both using the set for strictly listening and for storage. Variable mic monitoring™ is another great feature. This allows users to hear their own voice, which tells you how loud you’re talking. This eliminates the shouting that plagues multiplayer sessions. Need voice clarity? Done. Truspeak™ technology makes for crystal clear communication to ensure that no word gamers say is misunderstood. In addition, the Stealth 600 Gen 2™ features separate game audio and chat volume knobs which allows for users to fully customize the balance between game sound and chat sound.
Finally, Turtle Beach has moved away from Micro USB and has moved over to USB-C. We found this to be a breath of fresh air since we won’t have to fight with or risk damage plugging the device in to charge the seemingly never-ending 15 hour battery. Not only that, but we found that the battery charges very quickly in comparison to other comparative headsets.
Turtle Beach is a company that not only listens to its’ customers, but acts on it and improves. The robust feature set and quality build of the Stealth 600 Gen 2™ proves it.
The only thing that’s not high end about this killer headset is the price. At $99.95 MSRP, the Stealth 600 Gen 2™ is priced at a level that everyone can afford, so make sure it’s on your shopping list when the XBox family of devices version releases on September 20th.
