In an interview With Joystik in September of 1982, famed game developer Eugene Jarvis spoke about the creative freedom game designers were given at that time, which is a stark contrast of what the industry is like today. Since many ideas at the beginning of the industry were new, designers -who developed the entire game, music, and all- were given cart blanche of what they wanted to create. Jarvis contends that that freedom was because of the realization management in the video game industry encountered.
“I think managers have realized that most software people are slightly brain damaged, that they’re off on their own planets.”
