Nintendo vs. Sony: Round 3

Nintendo vs. Sony: Round 3

Nothing gets a console war flaring more than a new console announcement. Following Sony’s announcement of PlayStation 5 Pro, social media was set ablaze with both supporters and critics of the $699 price point. This brought fans back to 2006 when Sony announced the $499 and $599 Price points of PlayStation 3.

During an interview with Geoff Keighley at E3 2006, Former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime shared his thoughts on Sony’s decision, and with the impending announcement of Nintendo’s next console, Reggie’s legendary sound byte couldn’t be more relevant.

When asked by Keighley if he were afraid that Sony would steal the show, Reggie replied:

“Handily no. We were confident in what we had. I think frankly, our friends over at Sony did us a favor with their pricing announcement, which is just an obscene amount of money to be charging for a gaming console. Even though they’re trying to do more with it, they’ve opened the door for us, and I plan on driving a truck through that door.”
