GamesRelated Report: Nintendo Direct

Today Nintendo released its first Direct in months, revealing key information about updates for currently available games. Since embracing digital distribution, Nintendo also embraced post-launch updates and DLC to expand the playability of its games, and such updates appear frequently on both the 3DS and Wii U platforms.

Last month, The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes released on the 3DS. The game focuses on

multiplayer with three Links working together to solve puzzles and defeat enemies in various stages. Nintendo plans to release a free update on Dec 2, 2016 which includes a new area, the Den of Trials, containing 30 stages as well as two new outfits: Linebeck’s costume allows players to see inside chests before opening them and Fierce Deity Armor offers powered up attacks and a sword beam which splits in four directions.

Splatoon receives even more updates with new gear, including winter items, coming Nov 12 and 13, 2015 with more coming soon. The updates also include gameplay and balance adjustments in an effort to enhance the general experience of the game. Nintendo also revealed a special Treehouse Tournament in which Nintendo Treehouse employees play against each other, and broadcast on twitch.tv/nintendo, youtube.com/nintendo, and live.nintendo.com.

With over 3.3 million stages available to play on Super Mario Maker, Nintendo plans to release a portal site in December 2015. Players access the portal site on their computer or mobile device and search for the types of stages they wish to play. They may favorite the stages they like, and the list syncs with the game immediately, allowing players to easily find the stage in the game and play it.

The final update for released games came as a huge surprise to many: the protagonist of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII, Cloud, makes his debut in Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS. He brings with him some of his signature Limits as well as some of Final Fantasy’s classic magic and summoning spells. In addition, a new Chocobo costume and Midgar stage will be available for download as well. Expect even more Super Smash Bros. news in December 2015 with a special broadcast.
